Refurbishment

Grade II Refurbishment of Farmhouse

Salisbury Civic Society Conservation Awards Scheme – winner 2012

The aim of the project was to restore and preserve the farmhouse with minimal impact on the historic fabric and character.

T

he rationale behind the renovation was to carefully repair and restore the existing elements where possible to arrest the decline of the building. Where this was unfeasible due to the extent of decay or damage, all new components were carefully designed to blend in with the original structure. The internal layout was altered to provide a functioning family home and to enhance the flow through the different elements of the dwelling. The ingress of natural light was considerably enhanced partially through the use of roof lanterns which also provide interesting design features. Any new elements were designed sympathetically to compliment rather than conflict. Craftsmen used traditional materials to blend in new with old and to retain the aesthetics of the building. Compliant damp prevention and insulation methods have be subtly applied to upgrade the structure to current energy efficiency standards wherever possible.
